Deux conducteurs dans la vingtaine ont été arrêtés pour alcool au volant dans la Municipalité de Pontiac depuis vendredi. Samedi, vers 1 h, un homme de 23 ans de Stittsville, en Ontario, a été arrêté sur la route 148, à Pontiac. La police a aussi intercepté une femme de 22 ans, lundi, vers 1 h 45, à ch. de la Montagne, Pontiac.

Two drivers in their twenties have been arrested for drunk driving in the municipality of Pontiac since Friday (9 Februrary). On Saturday at about 1 am a 23 year-old man from Stittsville, Ontario, was arrested on highway 148. The police also stopped a 22 year-old woman on Monday at about 1:45 am on Mountain road.

INTRODUCTION PAR EFFRACTION
Deux hommes ont été arrêtés, hier, à la suite d’une introduction par effraction dans une résidence du chemin Davis, située dans le secteur Breckenridge de la municipalité de Pontiac. C’est la propriétaire de la résidence qui, lors de son entrée dans la maison, a entendu du bruit. Elle a remarqué qu’une fenêtre était brisée. Elle a aussi vu un homme courir dans la cour arrière avec des objets dans les mains. Quelques minutes après avoir vu le suspect se sauver, des policiers ont intercepté un véhicule avec deux hommes à bord. Les deux suspects âgés de 20 et 30 ans ont été transportés au poste de police afin de subir un interrogatoire.

Two men were arrested yesterday following a break and enter into a residence on ch Davis in the Breckenridge sector of the municipality of Pontiac. The owner of the residence heard a noise when he/she entered the house. The owner noticed that a window was broken and also saw a man running in the backyard with objects in his hands. A few minutes after the suspect ran away, police stopped a vehicle with two men on board. Two suspects aged 20 and 30 were taken to the police station for questioning.

Les policiers de la Municipalité régionale de comté des Collines ont saisi de la cocaïne, du haschich, du cannabis et de l’oxycodone (morphine) dans un point de vente situé 1073-A, rue de Clarendon, dans le secteur Quyon, de la municipalité de Pontiac. Les policiers se sont présentés sur place à 12 h 30 et ont arrêté un homme de 57 ans et une femme de 62 ans. Les deux personnes ont été remises en liberté sous conditions.

De l’équipement d’équitation a été volé à Pontiac, hier, alors que la police de la MRC des Collines poursuit son enquête afin d’identifier le ou les suspects dans cette affaire. Six selles d’équitation, trois western et trois anglaises, ont été dérobées dans une écurie du chemin Smith Léonard, dans le secteur Luskville. Les pertes sont évaluées à 4 000 $.

"Gypsies" are rife in QUYON

Thieves are being talked about since last week, in the MRC des Collines. The group, whose members look like gypsies, were in stores in the Pontiac, and stole more than $12,000 of merchandise, including a large quantity of cigarettes. The group of five people targetted, among others, the Marcotte convenience store in Quyon. Here, as elsewhere, two of them chatted to the clerk, in English or French with a strong accent, while others seized articles, even going to the storeroom behind. They are also linked to a robbery at a business in Masham and in a nearby residence. "Suspects buy small items, ask for information and maintain the conversation, while others go to work. They can stay up to 30 minutes in a store, "said Martin Fournel of the MRC des Collines Police. The three women in the group are dressed in white blouses and long baggy black dresses. The group always arrives on the scene in a minivan. Police in the MRC are still searching for the group. Most events occurred on 12 and 13 May. One woman had a baby aged less than four months, while another is pregnant.

Des voleurs font parler d’eux depuis la semaine passée, dans la MRC des Collines. Le groupe, dont certains membres s’apparentent à des gitans, a sévi dans des commerces du Pontiac, pour y voler pour plus de 12000$ de marchandise, dont une grande quantité de cigarettes. Le groupe de cinq personnes a visé, entre autres, le dépanneur Marcotte, à Quyon. À cet endroit comme ailleurs, deux d’entre eux parlent à l’employé, en anglais ou en français avec un fort accent, pendant que d’autres s’emparent d’articles, se rendant même jusqu’à l’entrepôt, à l’arrière. Un autre événement les relie à un vol survenu dans un commerce de Masham et dans une résidence à proximité. «Des suspects achètent de petits articles, demandent des informations et entretiennent la conversation, pendant que les autres s’exécutent dans le commerce. Ils peuvent rester jusqu’à 30 minutes dans un commerce», explique Martin Fournel, de la police de la MRC des Collines. Les trois femmes du groupe sont vêtues de blouses blanches et de longues robes noires amples. Le clan arrive toujours sur les lieux, à bord d’une minifourgonnette. La police de la MRC des Collines recherche toujours le groupe. La plupart des événements se sont produits les 12 et 13 mai derniers. Une des femmes avait un bébé âgé de moins de quatre mois, tandis qu’une autre serait enceinte.

Un homme de 39 ans a passé à travers les filets de la police de la Municipalité régionale de comté (MRC) des Collines, en leur faisant croire qu’il était son frère.

« C’est mon frère »

Les agents, pourtant expérimentés, n’y ont vu que du feu lorsqu’ils ont arrêté un conducteur suspect, dans la nuit de lundi, à Breckenridge, dans la municipalité de Pontiac. Seul le passager, Chadwick Barclay Leblanc, a été embarqué après la découverte d’outils de cambriolage dans la voiture. Leblanc, 41 ans, a été arrêté puis accusé au palais de justice de Gatineau. On le relie à des vols survenus dans le secteur Breckenridge, quelques heures plus tôt.

Les policiers ont procédé au contrôle du conducteur, en se fiant à des photos et une description du suspect. L’homme a toutefois convaincu les agents que cette personne n’était pas lui, mais bien son frère, qui porterait le même tatouage et qui lui ressemblerait physiquement. Les policiers l’ont laissé partir, réalisant un peu plus tard qu’ils avaient finalement parlé… au vrai suspect.

« Nous émettrons un mandat d’arrestation », a indiqué hier le porte-parole de la police de la MRC des Collines, Martin Fournel. L’identité de l’homme n’a pas été révélée, puisque les accusations n’avaient toujours pas été déposées.

Quant à Chadwick Barclay Leblanc, il a reçu une sentence de 21 jours de détention, hier. L’accusé contrevenait à plusieurs conditions de libération, dont un couvre-feu, et était déjà inculpé du côté d’Ottawa.

« On demande aux résidents du secteur Breckenridge ayant été victime de vol dans une remise ou dans un véhicule de nous en informer », mentionne l’agent Fournel.

"A comment: We have an almost identical facility in Champlain Park and Area through an undisclosed web exchange that we call the Forum. It has run for a couple of years now. It has worked very well indeed not only for recommended businesses but also exchanges on local problems such as drainage, tree removal, septic tank and well issues and a neighbourhood watch and policing during periods of break and enters, marauding bears, deer, coyotes, and loose dogs. Bad or poor experiences with businesses are also included but can be tricky unless done gently.

The main problem has been stopping individuals and businesses from promoting their own stuff.

Both languages are used, with a higher proportion of French."

Ideas for anti-burglary tips:
Ask a neighbour to remove newspaper (Citizen, Le Droit etc...) if you're not home. You can also ask the paper to stop delivery for a few days when you're away.

Have interior/exterior lights on a timer. Some timers can be programmed up to 4 times per day. Suggestion. Have your exterior lights on two different times during the night, i.e. 9-11pm & 2:30-4:30am
During the winter, make sure your driveway is cleared of snow. In the summer, make sure your grass is cut on a regular basis. Thieves will notice that there's no one around if your grass hasn't been cut for 2 or so weeks. Hire a student to cut the grass while you're away.

There were some robberies of building materials (door, window, tools) from isolated building sites in Breckenridge In November. Be warned.
